6 things to know about RTD’s Civic Center Station $26M redo

Civic Center Station, one of Denver’s busiest mass transit centers, has closed for a $26 million renovation project and will stay closed for a year to 18 months.

1) What’s happening?

After 30 years, the dark, underground bus station pales in comparison to theRegional Transportation District’s shiny, new, bright, LEED-certified underground bus station at Denver Union Station, the other end of downtown.

The plan includes peeling back the roof of the plaza and building a white-canopied, glass-walled, sun-filled transportation hub.

And the hope is that the transformation of Civic Center Station will lead to bigger changes throughout the larger upper downtown area.
